TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 18, 2022) – Keith Haney is quick to admit a driver error cost him and his Keith Haney Racing team an easy first-round win in Stroud Safety Pro Mod at the fall Throwdown in T-Town. Making up for that is one reason why Haney is fired up for the final race of the Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series (MWDRS) presented by J&A Service season, the Xtreme Texas World Finals, Oct. 21-22, at Xtreme Raceway Park.
Haney qualified third at the Throwdown at Osage Casino & Hotel Tulsa Raceway Park, the track he co-owns with fellow Pro Mod racer Todd Martin. He had a first-round bye, but Haney’s Musi-powered Summit Racing/Strange Engineering “Black Mamba” Camaro suffered a transmission issue in the final qualifying session that couldn’t be fixed for the opening round of eliminations. “It was all my fault,” admitted Haney, who was the defending event champion. “Had nothing to do with the crew or anything. In Q3, for some reason I hit the line-lock button going down the racetrack, which slowed down the car and burned up the transmission. It should've been a 3.60-something. All driver error. I don't know how I did it, but I did it. It is what it is. We tried to get it fixed. Had all the parts to fix it, just couldn't get it fixed in time. So we had a bye, which we ultimately didn't get to show up for. That's how our race ended up.” Before the transmission issue, Haney and tuner Brandon Switzer had the opportunity to break in a brand-new engine, which will remain in the car for the World Finals. “We've had a motor sitting underneath the cabinet for two years that we've never had out,” Haney said. “Brandon said we need to pull that motor out and put it in for Q3, so we actually changed a motor in Q3, then I burned up the transmission. But we did that just to see what the motor would do and it was awesome. It ran just like it was supposed to. But we're all fixed up and ready to roll. We're already ready to go to Texas. Hopefully we'll go down there and run our best E.T. like we did the first race of the year when we went 3.65. We're hoping to beat that here at the last race of the year.” Haney, who drives one of the only nitrous-assisted cars in a field full of boosted Pro Mods, knows what he needs to do to end the year on a high note. “One thing is to be consistent,” Haney said. “The other thing is to see what we can put in it and get the track to take. Our goal is to make nitrous the fastest. At the last race, if I'm not mistaken, I was the only nitrous car there. I'm trying to make nitrous great again. The rules kind of fit the other combos. I just gotta keep working on our program to see if we can speed it up as much as we possibly can. TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 3, 2022) – As the defending event champion in Stroud Safety Pro Mod, Keith Haney is looking forward to getting back on track at the fall Throwdown in T-Town, Oct. 6-8, at Osage Casino & Hotel Tulsa Raceway Park. It’s a double event as the Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series (MWDRS) presented by J&A Service also completes the MWDRS Great Bend Nationals, so Haney is hoping to gain some ground in the points chase. “I'm looking forward to trying to win it again,” said Haney, who is the founder of MWDRS and co-owner of Tulsa Raceway Park. “I need to win Great Bend and I need to win Tulsa to get me right up there in the points. I need to go No. 1 and win.” Haney is confident he has what it takes to turn on win lights this weekend. Along with that, he’s setting out to blow the scoreboards down with his Brandon Switzer-tuned, Bickel-built, Musi-powered “Black Mamba” Camaro. “I'm hoping to break my own records,” Haney said. “The quickest we've been is 3.65 and that was earlier in the year at Xtreme [Raceway Park]. I'd like to see us go in the low .60s if we can, or at least some good, consistent mid-.60 runs. If we can do that, then we have a chance to win it.”
The cool conditions expected all weekend will help Haney in his mission to make career-best passes, but he realizes the boosted cars will also be working with the same killer conditions. “They're obviously faster than the nitrous cars,” said Haney. “We just have to work on our program a little bit more and try to catch up as much as we can. The rules are close. We're just a few numbers off. We'll have to make that up on the tree.” Outside of competition, it’s also going to be a big weekend in the pits for Haney, a Tulsa area businessman. He’s used to racing with the support of family and friends, but that support group will be even bigger at his home track. “It's awesome to have my wife, Misty, and the kids and everybody here,” Haney said. “There’s a lot going on for us because my car dealership employees are coming out, so it's a little stressful, but in the same case it's exciting to have everybody and my family there.”

MARTIN, Mich. (Sept. 6, 2022) – Keith Haney has enjoyed the nearly three-month break on the 2022 Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series (MWDRS) presented by J&A Service schedule, but he’s ready to get back into the seat of his nitrous-fed “Black Mamba” Camaro at US 131 Motorsports Park this weekend, Sept. 9-10. Haney and his competitors in Stroud Safety Pro Mod will be taking part in the track’s 18th annual Honor Credit Union Funny Car Nationals. “The fans are just amazing at Martin,” said Haney, who is the founder and owner of MWDRS and co-owner of Osage Casino & Hotel Tulsa Raceway Park. “Jason Peterson and the US 131 team have their big jet show and Funny Car show this weekend. It's kind of like a Throwdown [at T-Town in Tulsa]. You go to a Throwdown, it's a packed house. You go to US 131, it's a packed house. We've had a great crowd at a lot of races this year, and we’re looking forward to seeing more packed grandstands up in Michigan.” Haney and the MWDRS last raced in mid-June, so they’ve had plenty of time to prepare for this weekend and the second half of the season. The Keith Haney Racing team, which includes tuner Brandon Switzer, Dale Hancock, Shane Goodnight, Steve Cooks, and Bobby Savedra, is hoping to go one round further than they did at this event in 2021. “Last year, I lost on a holeshot in the finals,” Haney said. “Had the fastest car on the property last year and I'm looking forward to having the fastest car on the property again this year. We'll see. Those ProChargers and screws have really picked up the pace this year. We have a lot of work to do so we can do good again.” Switzer, Haney’s longtime tuner, knows his way around US 131 Motorsports Park. In 2015, he tuned Pro Nitrous driver Pat Stoken to the first 3.60-second pass for a nitrous car, a 3.69 at 201 MPH, at a PDRA event. “Having Brandon on our side is huge,” Haney said. “No one knows nitrous like him. He knows how to go fast at Martin, and he’s proven that time and time again over the years. Huge thanks to him and the whole team. I also can’t thank my wife, Misty, and my family enough for supporting me and being a part of this. I'm just excited about getting this last half of the season going.” Haney enters the weekend sixth in points as he chases his first win of the season. With three races left after Martin – a double event at Tulsa and the World Finals at Xtreme Raceway Park – the past MWDRS champion is ready to start stringing together win lights. “We haven't made many changes to our Summit Racing Equipment/Strange Equipment Camaro lately because our program's been really solid,” Haney said. “The driver needs to be doing his job. This time last year, I was 13th in points. We runnered up at Great Bend and Martin and won one of the Throwdowns and got to third place. MADISON, Ill. (June 15, 2022) – As the Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series (MWDRS) presented by J&A Service heads to St. Louis this weekend, Stroud Safety Pro Mod driver Keith Haney is still mourning the loss of his late friend and competitor, Ronnie Hobbs. Haney is racing in memory of Hobbs at World Wide Technology Raceway’s Summer Speed & Fire Spectacular, the fifth race of the eight-race MWDRS season. Haney was the next car in line to run behind Hobbs during a Friday night qualifying session at the MWDRS Great Bend Nationals two weeks ago when Hobbs lost his life in a top-end crash. Haney admits he’s struggled with the decision to race again so soon, but he believes it’s what Hobbs would’ve wanted. “Is it going to be tough to strap in the car? Yeah,” said Haney, who’s also the founder and owner of the MWDRS. “I can tell you if I even thought about not racing, he would kick my butt. He loved racing and he would never want us to stop. So I'm going to strap back in that car and I'm gonna go racing. If I can win it for Ronnie, it's going to be tough. We have a lot of tough competitors. But I'll be running for Ronnie this weekend. He'll be with me. If I win, I'm going to dedicate it to him. He was a good friend and a good person with a good family.” Haney has found himself looking back on his memories of racing with Hobbs, who joined the MWDRS Pro Mod contingent in 2019. Hobbs often joked with Haney, whether it was over Haney’s preferred power adder, nitrous oxide, or the two drivers’ similarly themed race car nicknames. “He always gave me a hard time,” Haney laughed. “Right before his accident, he came up to me, [tuner] Brandon Switzer, and Todd Martin [Haney’s business partner and fellow Pro Mod driver] as we were sitting on a golf cart in the lanes. He comes up in his usual Ronnie Hobbs way and puts out his first two fingers like snake fangs. Everyone knows his car was the 'Texas Rattlesnake' and mine is the 'Black Mamba.’ He put the snake fangs on my car like 'I'm gonna get ya.' I'll always have that last memory.” Fortunately, St. Louis is a friendly, familiar track for Haney. It was one of the first MWDRS host tracks, and he’s good friends with WWT Raceway’s Executive VP and General Manager, Chris Blair. “I love St. Louis – it's one of my favorite tracks,” Haney said. “I've made it to a couple finals and won one. It’s a great facility, great staff, great paramedics. It's just a wonderful track.” As always, Haney is going racing with the support of his family and his crew, which includes tuner Brandon Switzer, Dale Hancock, Shane Goodnight, Steve Cooks, and Bobby Savedra. “My wife (Misty) and my kids worry about all this stuff,” Haney said. “I can't thank my family and my crew enough for supporting me in doing what I love, and that’s drag racing. I love the sport. I couldn't do it without them.” Even with the emotions surrounding the event, Haney remains fiercely competitive and determined to go some rounds with his Musi-powered, Bickel-built “Black Mamba” Camaro. “I’m ready to take that Summit Racing/Strange Engineering car to the finals this weekend, Haney said. “Nitrous to the front.” Haney and the MWDRS Pro Mod class will get two qualifying sessions on Friday at 5 and 8 p.m., as well as a final third session at noon on Saturday.
